Welcome to the Soroptimist Sierra Pacific Region website!

The Sierra Pacific Region, comprised of forty-four clubs, is located in Central California and is one of 28 regions in Soroptimist International of the Americas, one of four federations of Soroptimist International.

Soroptimist is an International volunteer organization for business and professional women working on projects that improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. Our name "Soroptimist" is a coined Latin word which means "best for women."

Founded in 1921, Soroptimist has approximately 95,000 members in 120 countries and territories. Soroptimist members belong to local clubs which determine community focus projects and programs in addition to supporting organization-wide programs, all of which benefit women and girls.

Our signature service project is the Soroptimist "Women's Opportunity Award." Since its inception in 1972, this program has distributed almost $20 million in cash grants to thousands of women worldwide who are seeking to improve their economic situation through additional training and education.

I
n 2007 Soroptimist International of the Americas launched a Soroptimist "Stop Trafficking" Campaign to raise awareness of the problem existing worldwide. Soroptimist members also support the many other programs that are organization-wide, including The Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence, Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award,Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women, Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls and the Soroptimist Disaster Relief Fund.

The Soroptimist Clubs in Sierra Pacific Region also support a Fellowship Award, which is a grant to doctoral students working on women related programs. This award is funded by donations of the Soroptimist Members. The Sierra Pacific Region Clubs actively support "S" clubs, which are clubs for high school students who work on community service projects. We look at these young students as our "leaders of tomorrow."
