Meet the 2010-2012 Sierra Pacific Region Board Members
Governor
Sherry Pearson
I am very honored and proud to serve as Governor of the Soroptimist Sierra Pacific Region for the 2010-2012 biennium.
Our Soroptimist Mission statement speaks of how we strive to improve the lives of women and girls and my theme as Governor: "Soroptimist: The Treasured Gem of Women and Girls," speaks to the fact that we truly are an effective, treasured organization benefiting women and girls. We not only give of our time and resources to benefit women and girls but we are also an inspiration to women and girls inspiring them to succeed in life as we encourage women and girls to "Live their Dreams."
My Goals as Governor for this biennium are:
Teamwork: let's work as a team. Please use your Region committee members to assist you. Your are not alone as club members, we are here to help you, we are all learning as a team on this journey together.
Fundraising: let's encourage clubs and members to make Soroptimist their "charity of choice." Let's make the Annual Club Campaign a yearly line item in every club's budget.
Our Mission: let's be who we say we are....we are to work on projects which improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. This is our Mission Statement; I challenge all clubs to work on women and girl-focused projects.
Membership Recruitment: let's make this a major priority for each club. Each club should plan at least one membership recruitment event each year to share the gift of Soroptimist membership with others.
Leadership Development: let's work hard to encourage members to step up into Soroptimist leadership positions, both on club and region levels. Let's pass along the message that being a Soroptimist leader is something inspiring, life-enriching, life-changing, fun and special!
Come along on this journey with me, I cannot lead alone, I need each of you to come work with me as a team.
I believe in what Luciano de Crescenzo said: "We are each angels with only one wing; we can only fly by embracing each other."
Alone, we are awesome women with amazing talents, but by working together we can soar to great heights in what we accomplish in our Soroptimist journey.

Governor elect
Pat Jones
Thank you for electing me as Governor elect for the Sierra Pacific Region, S.I.A. I am excited about being given the opportunity to continue to work in a leadership role in the Sierra Pacific Region. I have been a member of Soroptimist International of Modesto North for 29+ years, my membership has put me in contact with many wonderful and inspiring women who I would never have met had I not been a Soroptimist member.
I look forward to the next two years serving with Governor Sherry and the SPR 2010-2012 Board. As with many volunteer oganizations we continue to face challenges in growth and in leadership development. I know that both of these subjects will be a high priority for all of us.
I am proud to be a member in a Region that has embraced the "Renaissance Campaign" and has placed its focus on Program, Fund Raising, Public Awareness and Membership.

Sierra Pacific Region Secretary
Debbie Jensen
I am looking forward to serving on the region board with Governor Sherry.
During the 2008-2010 biennium, I served as District 1 Director and loved that job! I enjoyed visiting the clubs in my district, meeting new members and making new friends. The presidents' round table meetings were a way for all of us to grow in knowledge of our organization.
I already knew Soroptimists who were active in our community when I joined in 1993. After attending a membership mixer I really wanted to join this group of active, dedicated women (who seemed to be having a lot of fun too).
Secretaries are responsible for the history of our clubs and our organization. Guidelines are available for us to follow on the SIA website, and in our club leadership materials.
Contact me if you have any questions about minutes or other secretarial duties.
Looking forward to a productive 2010-2012!!

Treasurer
Ora Hoover It was an honor to be elected your Region Treasurer at or Spring Conference. I am looking forward to working with our club treasurers this biennium.
I have been a member of Soroptimist for almost 25 years. Soroptimist began for me in Modesto and has continued in Lodi. After serving on many committees and holding many offices, I became club President in 1994-95. I was asked to serve as a Region committee chair in 1995 and have continued to serve the Region in various capacities. I became District III Director in 2002-04, what a great experience working with the clubs and meeting so many amazing women! These opportunities gave me the chance and motivation for personal growth and learning more about the Soroptimist world, which continues under the leadership of our Region.
There are many reasons why I became a Soroptimist, but when asked I usually reply: "I wouldn't know all these fabulous ladies if I were not a Soroptimist." It will be a privilege to continue to serve Soroptimist and all the women it represents.

Parliamentarian
Jo
Ann Vear It is my great pleasure that Governor Sherry asked me to serve as her Sierra Pacific Region Parliamentarian. Governor Sherry was the District IV Director when I was Governor and I look forward to working under her leadership. Governor Sherry's first Board meeting was held immediately following our Spring Conference 2010. I am confident that the next two years of Board meetings will be informative and organized.
Here are a few quick Parliamentarian tips:
When can a president vote? To create a tie or to break a tie.
The difference between and inspiration and an invocation: an invocation is God's word(such as a prayer), and an inspiration is man's word(such as a poem or thought for the day). Because of differing cultures in our organization, "inspiration" is now the recommendation for all clubs.
Meeting agendas should never list "old" business; instead it should be "unfinished" business.

I was invited to join SI Watsonville in 1992. Saying “yes” to being a Soroptimist eighteen years ago was one of my best decisions. Over the years I have had the opportunity to serve SI Watsonville in many positions including serving as President. It was while attending many of SPR’s training sessions at Leadership Summit, District Meetings and Conference that I gained knowledge and expertise to chair committees, serve on the board and be President. These learned skills and tools are not only for the positions in the volunteer arena, they can be for personal growth; they can be applied in the workplace and at home. SPR and SIA have a tremendous amount of information, skills and tools to share with you. I am looking forward to sharing this information with all the clubs in District One and you. Soroptimist is an organization that not only helps to affect the lives of women and girls in our community but also the entire world. There are thousands of women we will never meet or see that have been helped by our work. There are thousands of women and girls that need our help. Join Soroptimist, be a part of the mission.
Please contact me if you have any questions or ideas to share. Angie Muhlenhaupt: angie@oliveiraplastering.com

I am honored to serve as District III Director for the 2010-12 biennium. Every person in this world is unique and has something to offer and Soroptimists are some of the most creative, caring and compassionate people in the world!
I was invited to join Soroptimist in 1994 and through its service and leadership opportunities, I have grown tremendously both personally and professionally.
District III has eleven clubs: Amador County, Calaveras County, Groveland, Lodi, Lodi Sunrise, Manteca, Oakdale, Ripon, Sonora, Tracy and Twain Harte.
